How to create an exclusive winning product?
Ahem, surely we all follow the process below:
Find ideas on Facebook, Marketplace like Etsy, and use tools like Heyetsy for checking.
And when I discover a product that makes me go “wow,” it’s usually already been selling like crazy on FB or some Paid traffic channel.
There are two directions to go:
Create a completely new product
Based on a well-selling product to sell
Both approaches have the same mechanism, which is that the product must meet customer demand.
But the difference is that new products have lower competition and high demand.
Meanwhile, well-selling products have high competition but also high demand.
So most of us, including you and me, want to aim for the first option, right? I don’t want to compete with anyone while still having a high-demand product.
But life isn’t that easy; for products with lower competition and high demand, I have to dig deeper to gather data to determine whether the market is viable or not.
This step is often beautifully referred to as R&D (Research and Development).
Sounds fancy, right?
For example, let’s say I find this product
People sell very well, if you look at the statistics on the Heyetsy Tool, the metrics are very high
And then they develop and innovate a new product
- Add a set of lights to it
- Turn it into a keychain
- …
(Anything they can think of, but with rules)
As you can see, the photo above shows the product created 3 months ago, selling very well and generating:
- 10+ orders per day (green button)
- 305+ views per day (orange button)
- 177+ units sold (blue button)
- All achieved within just 3 months.
So, what’s the key rule here?
You only need to remember one thing: collect as much data as possible.
For example, the manufacturer will have this kind of information; collaborate with them. They know best which products sell well since they produce them daily.
Use tools to scan and evaluate product material, design, and styles that customers love. Then, ask the fulfillment side for an overall review and work together to determine which product is a winner. => This process is called R&D, where you join forces to create a great product.
Imagine it like this:
Me (the seller): Hi, I’ve been thinking about creating this product. I find it really promising. I’ve noticed customers really love having song lyrics printed on acrylic sheets. Can I try a different material like keychains? I’d like to experiment with acrylic keychains, embroidery, etc. What do you think?
Manufacturer: That sounds good! Based on my experience, you could work with your idea, and the keychains are a great idea. We can also create various keychains with different materials, but the one customers seem to like the most is leather keychains. Why don’t you give it a try?
Me (the seller): Amazing! I’ll test the market with leather keychains first and incorporate custom song ideas.
And just like that, a new product is born!
That is an example of the new product production process that you created.
According to the timeline, that idea will be demonstrated as shown in the image below.
With 38+ sold every day, a 6% conversion rate shows me that this idea works.
Okay, that’s the idea for today.
