I wish I had known this sooner

Certainly, I will make sure to show you what I am striving to achieve, and I also hope that you can reap similar results.

Here is what I have been working on for over a week with three articles.

The total number of views and interest is nearly equal to the views and interest of the entire month before.

I have to admit that I am closely following the guidance of a writer whom I have been following for a long time. If you are also looking for ways to make your writing more accessible, I recommend learning from her writing style.

This is what I learned from her

Observing other writers in the same field

I used to write articles based on personal emotions when I first joined Medium.

I maintained this state for about a week,

then I gave up

I realized I wasn’t achieving much, and my expectations were too high, leading me to quit writing.

About three weeks later, I spent time observing other writers in the same field to see what they were writing.

This helped me:

  • reinforce the belief in continuing to write
  • explore the readership in the field
  • strategize

Okay,

I noticed some points in the articles with a clear outline, so I started writing articles again following the outline.

The result I obtained was having views, but the claps ratio was very low, and some articles even failed to reach readers.

At that time, I felt abandoned because the Medium platform did not seem favorable.

However, when I sought advice from “Paul Rose,” I completely changed my approach, as her shared experiences were truly valuable to me.

Today, I will share with you some factors.

The I factor

I notice that humans have a tendency to connect, they have emotions. Therefore,

They are more likely to engage with a certain issue when they hear someone confide in them.

Or in other words, when they speak using the pronoun “I”

This is evidenced by the fact that viral posts often contain “the I factor.”

Certainly,

No one wants to hear a story or a speculative topic with value in knowledge or a particular field.

So, I should make an effort to incorporate the “I” factor in my posts.

That is a crucial starting point.

Sometimes it may not be very modest, but this is a necessary factor because readers will understand that if they do something similar, they will achieve results similar to yours.

Finding a Viral Headline

This is something that many beginners like me often overlook.

The first point of contact for readers is the headline, accounting for over 50% of the decision to click and read further.

If the headline doesn’t stand out, I’ll likely pass over it, and my chance will be lost even if the content is great.

I’ve gathered a few examples of headlines that don’t capture much reader interest, such as:

  • XX Sellers, Get Ready for Valentines Day!
  • Why I Love XX More Than Other Digital Marketplaces
  • Unwrapping Creativity: Unique Gifts from Etsy for Every Occasion
  • What Type of Templates Sells Most On Etsy

Do you see anything appealing in the above headlines?

The answer is ‘yes.’

But I don’t have much emotion to click and read those articles.

I change my approach a bit with the headlines below:

  • I wrote every day for XX days. I’m surprised!
  • How I Make Passive Income Selling Digital Products
  • How I Got My First Sale On Etsy in 1 Week
  • How I Got XXX+ Claps with 3 Posts on Medium. (Just 3 Weeks In)

With the mentioned changes, the likelihood that readers would want to click and view my article has significantly increased.

You can manually list the titles with the potential for virality over a one-week period.

If an article receives more than 1,000 claps, its title is attractive

Let’s save those titles somewhere and be prepared to use them.

My experience is to pre-create draft articles with pre-prepared titles.

I find it to be more time-efficient for me!

Furthermore, you can install the MediumStats.com extension to quickly view the number of Claps when searching for a specific topic.

This will enhance your ability to compile potentially viral headlines more efficiently and access content in the field more quickly.

The Proof factor

When reading this article, if I don’t have any proof to prove the things I share with you, the value of the article will be significantly reduced.

You might think I’m a liar, right?

Just kidding,

I don’t think you would think that because if I were you, I wouldn’t have time to think about this.

I would stop reading the article and give the opportunity to other writers.

But the difficulty here is that if I’m a newcomer to Medium, how do I have statistics to show off to you?

The solution is that I write articles in fields that I know, such as my experience in selling on Etsy. I enjoy writing and sharing lessons with others.

So, that’s what I’ll focus on because I have experience and evidence in those fields.

Add some proofs to your article; its value will increase significantly

By applying the above methods, my articles are gaining significant attention, with a high reader engagement rate.

Conclusion

I hope this article is helpful for you.

I will continue to share a few tips like this every day.

See you in the upcoming articles.

Leave claps to spread the value, and it will give me more motivation to write more.
